The grime MC interrupted his Ibiza show to catch Eric Dier’s winner
Stormzy halted his #MERKY Festival set last night (July 3) to watch England’s penalty shootout against Colombia.
The grime MC was performing in Ibiza as part of Ibiza Rocks, but his stage time clashed with the World Cup match.
Stormzy stopped the show midway through so he and the crowd could watch the tense shootout on a big screen in the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. In fan-shot footage, the star crouched down on stage, while the crowd erupted in huge cheers when Eric Dier’s winner hit the back of the net.
Shortly after England secured victory, huge plumes of smoke and floods of confetti shot out from the stage as the audience sang Stormzy’s hit ‘Big For Your Boots’ back at him. Watch the moment above.
Earlier this year, the award-winning artist gave NME an update on his second album. “I’m working on my second album now,” he said. “It’s going really well, I’d like to think.” Asked what the record was sounding like, he replied: “I will not reveal anything. You’ll just hear it, then we’ll go from there.”
Stormzy released his debut album ‘Gang Signs & Prayer‘ in February 2017. In a five-star review, NME said: “The south London grime don delivers a knockout debut that’s brash and pensive in equal measure.”
