Candace Owens had launched a range of merch encouraging a “black exit” from the Democratic Party she claimed was designed by West

Kanye West has denied designing a range of shirts supporting right-wing commentator Candace Owens’ “black exit” campaign.

Owens, founder of Red Pill Black and Turning Point USA communications director, is leading a campaign for African-Americans to leave the Democratic Party.
The shirts, which were unveiled on Saturday (October 27) at the Young Black Leadership Summit in Washington D.C., feature the word “blexit” – a play on “black exit” reportedly inspired by Brexit.

Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colours, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero, Kanye West,” Owens said at the event. “He has taken one of the boldest steps in America to open a conversation we have needed to have.”

However, the rapper has now denied being involved in the shirts. “I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine,” he tweeted. “I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”

He continued: “My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!”
Earlier today (October 30), he also tweeted about some of the political ideas he does support, including “creating jobs and opportunities for people who need them the most”, “prison reform”, and “common-sense gun laws that will make our world safer.”

West caused controversy earlier this year when he tweeted his support for Owens, saying he “loves the way Candace Owens thinks.” The pair later met in person, along with right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk.
Earlier this week, West donated $73,540 (£57,368) to Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia. The politician, who has also been backed by Chance The Rapper, is a member of the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, West has reportedly submitted a song for recognition in two rock music categories at next year’s Grammy Awards.
The rapper is said to have put forward a track from his joint album with Kid Cudi, ‘Kids See Ghosts’. ‘Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)’ has been submitted for consideration in the categories of Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.
